We are into the last quarter of WIPs Be Gone with less than 25 days left in the year. (Where did 2021 go!?) I missed my 50 Day update here on the blog, so here are the Day 50 and Day 75 updates for WIPs Be Gone, a WIP finishing challenge running for the last 100 days of 2021, hosted by Leanne of Devoted Quilter.

To be honest, I've lost steam a bit over the last couple weeks, but I am planning to finish some more quilts in the next few weeks.

Day 50 Update

Nine little finishes, plus some other progress in quarter 2.

I bopped around making some progress on a few different things. Then as day 50 approached I focused on my tiniest WIPs to finish this pile of nine mini mini quilts. They finish at 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" each (Artist Trading Card sized).

This project was only a WIP because I had a fabric pull and an intention. In late October I started piecing my purple Prism Play quilt. This will be a submission to an upcoming SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) Northern California/Northern Nevada regional exhibition. Oh, if you'd like to join SAQA, you can do so now with code: FRIEND to save $20 on membership.

I made a scrappy binding and started binding my Waterfall quilt. (Have you seen my machine binding tutorial?)

The other thing I did in Q2 of WIPs Be Gone was to take a full inventory of my UFOs/WIPs. It had been about 2 years since I'd updated my list. I like having the reference to see it all in one place. Pictured above is my Patchwork City project. I finished piecing the 75 blocks in a 100 Day project that started last year around this time.

Day 75 Update

Four finishes in quarter 3.

Just after day 50 I kept working on my tiniest quilts. These two teal mini minis finish at 5 1/4” x 2 3/4” and 4 1/2” x 4”.

I finally circled back to my half bound Waterfall quilt and finished it up.

Made a little component of my Purple Prism Play project. This 6" square is the first part of what will be a 15" x 45" quilt.

Inspiration is everywhere. I finished up this mini quilt inspired by a friend's photo.

This project was started in 2016. This year I finished making all the components (that then were cut into quarters). During WIPs Be Gone I have put together 35 blocks. Now they've been packed away to switch gears and work on something different. I have lots to choose from.

In case you missed it, here's the link to my Day 25 update.

A few weeks ago I shared my new daily project, WIPs Be Gone with Leanne of Devoted Quilter. Here's a wrap up of all the works in progress I worked on during the first 25 days (of the last 100 days of 2021).

My commitment to myself is to spend at least 15 minutes (though often it's longer) making progress on a WIP. My goal is to finish 4 larger quilts before the end of the year as many of my finishes in the last year and a half have been mini quilts. You'll see that I'm still also working on mini quilt projects. In the next 25 days I'm gonna work to knock a couple larger projects into the finish column.

There's a bit of a theme in my projects so far: GREEN!

I spent the first week putting my Tac Tac Toe blocks into a finished quilt top. My WIPs Be Gone kickoff post lists all the Kona colors in this quilt and I absolutely love the palette. I'll be quilting it myself, but haven't yet basted it. This is atop my WIP priority list for the next few weeks.

I added hand stitching on my series of Personal Symbols mini art quilts from a summer class with Deborah Boschert. (hand stitching during Zoom meetings is great!) The next step on these is to add some free motion quilting before they are trimmed and mounted.

I finished the Positivity mini quilt that I shared recently. This was the project I spent the most time working on. I love the Kona Peapod background and always enjoy creating Scrappy Slabs.

I trimmed up my Waterfall quilt. It just needs binding, so I'll be finishing this in the next couple weeks, too.

And lastly, I worked on sewing together all my samples from the Improv Cutting Tips demo that I gave at the beginning of October. This blocks turned into a series of five mini quilts.

And I'm not just working on WIPs. I'm preparing for my first Improv Log Cabin guild class this weekend. And I'm also participating in Nicholas Ball's Improv Triangle Sew Along (in blue).

Oh and one more green thing I made recently. I'm taking a paper mixed media collage course and one thing we did this month was watercolor flowers and leaves with ink details. This is one of my favorites.

Thanks for visiting. I'd love to hear about what WIPs you're working on.

Today was the first day of the last 100 days of 2021. Time sure flies. I've mentioned in recent blog posts that I did #99DaysofWIPs this summer, from Memorial Day to Labor day, focusing on WIPs that were started in classes. I finished three small bags, two pillow covers, and five quilts in that time. Plus progress on a handful of other projects.

Today I started #WIPsBeGone2021 with Leanne of Devoted Quilter. We're spending the last 100 days of 2021 working on WIPs (works in progress). This time I'm not limiting myself to class WIPs. And I'm aiming for larger finishes. First up is my 60" x 60" Tic Tac Toe Quilt (free block tutorial by Alyce of Blossom Heart Quilts). I have 25 blocks made for me by my old quilt bee, The Solid Seven. In August 2020 I asked them to make blocks in their choice of these Kona colors:

  • Breakers
  • Limelight
  • Lapis
  • Cabbage
  • Spruce
  • Pool
  • Blueberry
  • Cactus
  • Steel
  • Leaf
  • Spring
  • Cypress
  • Celestial
  • Nightfall

Today I took the pile out, put them up on the design wall without overthinking their placement, and started sewing them together. The first two rows of 10 blocks are all together now.

I absolutely love the interaction of the color combinations. My plan is to focus on this project until completion before I dig out my next WIP. I'm also working on a couple other things at the moment. :-)
