A couple of oldies this week. I got these about a year ago. I just loved the Pirate Matey's line by Riley Blake when I saw it. These are the first precuts I've purchased. I also purchased some yardage from the line for backing fabric (not pictured). I intend to turn them into a quilt for our family room, which is decorated in blue, tan and brown. I thought purchasing precuts would mean I'd get a quilt top put together quickly, but I haven't been able to make a decision about exactly HOW I want to put them together. Hm. Any fast ideas given that I have 10" squares, 5" squares and a jelly roll?
The mission to make a king size bed quilt for our room started during the Shop Hop by The Bay in 2013. I came home with a few selections of fabric that were primarily purple. I don't even remember what they all looked like, but one had butterflies with gold accents. When I showed them to my husband he wasn't sold on any of them and asked, "Isn't there purple ninja fabric?" Well, a quick internet search for "purple ninja fabric" landed me on Spoonflower looking at this super purple ninja warriors! print. I immediately ordered a swatch, but it was too pink for the tones of purple that were in our room. The beauty of Spoonflower is that I was able to contact the creator who was happy to adjust the colors in her print to my purples. I snail mailed off my paint swatches from out bedroom and she turned them into this version of super purple ninja warriors!
I love it! And I quickly found a Kona solid purple to coordinate with it.
That started the somewhat long hunt for the perfect coordinating blender fabric to go with these. I've shopped some of my local quilt shops as well as ordered online (though that's really much more of a gamble on what tone of purple I'm getting). Here's my ever growing collection of possibilities. At least purple is a color I love AND an underrepresented color in my stash.
My plan is to make a Puzzle Box quilt featuring the purple ninjas.
I'm linking up to Sunday Stash with Molli Sparkles.

That ninja fabric is so awesome! They're just so subtly tucked in with the flowers :D
