Kid Stuff

I just spent a lovely week away with family, so I've been away from the blog and the sewing machine. Here's a quick share. I made these 12" by 16" pillows for The Boy and my niece and nephew as Hanukkah presents a couple years ago. (I guess it's about time I make one for The Girl.) It all started when I saw the kit for the Pack 'n Pillow Pattern by It's Sew Emma at Fat Quarter Shop. I just knew my niece would love the pink castle fabric. I did a little shopping (with The Boy's help) to pick out the car fabric for nephew. And, naturally, I raided my Very Hungry Caterpillar scraps to make the pillowcase for The Boy. I added the 1" strip of fabric so I could sneak in an additional fabric, and I fussy cut the foods fabric so we could see them all along the edge of the pillowcase.

Since I made a Mother's Day handprint craft, the kids were excited to make a handprint craft for the dad as well. I decided The Husband would really appreciate a Pirate and Ninja piece. I knew I'd seen pirate handprints on Pinterest, but I was also lucky enough to find ninja handprint inspiration as well. I asked The Boy what colors of paint we needed... he quickly declared, "Purple!" since of course his only experience with ninjas is my awesome fabric. Here's the result from Pirate The Boy and Ninja The Girl for Father's Day.

collage of drawstring bagsI just realized that I forgot to include this gem in my post about teacher gifts. The Boy dictated his messages to each teacher and I attached his notes to the outside of the gift bags. Since he's three, he doesn't totally get the surprise part of opening a gift. At birthday celebrations this year as we handed the wrapped gift to the recipient he's been known to exclaim, "we got you a sewing kit!" or "it's a skirt!" So, I've been working on reminding him NOT to tell people what is inside the gift so that they can be surprised. Here's one of his teacher notes:
