I just spent a lovely week away with family, so I've been away from the blog and the sewing machine. Here's a quick share. I made these 12" by 16" pillows for The Boy and my niece and nephew as Hanukkah presents a couple years ago. (I guess it's about time I make one for The Girl.) It all started when I saw the kit for the Pack 'n Pillow Pattern by It's Sew Emma at Fat Quarter Shop. I just knew my niece would love the pink castle fabric. I did a little shopping (with The Boy's help) to pick out the car fabric for nephew. And, naturally, I raided my Very Hungry Caterpillar scraps to make the pillowcase for The Boy. I added the 1" strip of fabric so I could sneak in an additional fabric, and I fussy cut the foods fabric so we could see them all along the edge of the pillowcase.

Since I made a Mother's Day handprint craft, the kids were excited to make a handprint craft for the dad as well. I decided The Husband would really appreciate a Pirate and Ninja piece. I knew I'd seen pirate handprints on Pinterest, but I was also lucky enough to find ninja handprint inspiration as well. I asked The Boy what colors of paint we needed... he quickly declared, "Purple!" since of course his only experience with ninjas is my awesome fabric. Here's the result from Pirate The Boy and Ninja The Girl for Father's Day.

Since I just showed you the Lined Drawstring Bags (using Jeni Baker's tutorial) I gave as teacher gifts this year, I thought I'd show you my first set. These were from March 2013, using a coordinated set of fat quarters that I'd purchased with no particular project in mind. I love how the set all goes together and was a little sad to split them up. Two were donated to my quilt guild's quilt show sale, I gave one to a friend for her birthday and we have two that house toys. The middle one in the group picture is the one The Boy chose to keep his matchbox cars in. I love that I get to see it often and clean-up is really easy for both kids.
