I'm new this quarter to the Finish Along with Katy at The Littlest Thistle. I have about a million WIP & UFOs... so I guess I'll just lay them all out here. I have some specific July Goals from this list.

  1. 4th of July Table runner (blocks pieced)
  2. Airplane dress for The Girl (fabric cut out)
  3. Airplane shirt for The boy (fabric cut out)
  4. 2005 (red/black/white) mystery quilt (on step 15 to piece the top)
  5. American Made Brand Farm to Fabric Challenge quilt (fabrics selected)
  6. 2003 (brights) mystery quilt (top completed)
  7. Ocean quilt for The Girl (top pieced, but needs applique done)
  8. Fish Mug Rug 1 (top/backing cut, fabrics chosen for fish and seaweed applique)
  9. Fish Mug Rug 2 (same as #8)
  10. Fish Mug Rug 3 (same as #8)
  11. Fish Mug Rug 4 (same as #8)
  12. Dinosaur SCVQA Philanthropy quilt (FMQ partially done)
  13. Fish 1 SCVQA philanthropy quilt (FMQ partially done)
  14. Fish 2 SCVQA philanthropy quilt (sandwiched)
  15. Batik SCVQA philanthropy quilt (sandwiched)
  16. Roman Stripez with butterfly backing (fabric selected)
  17. Roman Stripez with turtle backing (fabric selected)
  18. The Purple Ninja Quilt (fabric selected)

I realize that this is totally an "eyes bigger than my stomach" goal list for 3 months with a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old at home. And, ya know, dishes and laundry and all those other things to do around the house. Bottom line, blogging and goal setting starting in June has helped keep me sewing something every day. I like sewing. I'm happier when I do more of it. Some of these goals are non-negotiable (like the clothes for the kids to wear at The Boy's birthday party in two weeks) and some are much more lofty goals. I have more ideas than time and I keep trying to restrain myself from starting a new project until I finish some of these older (and in some cases VERY OLD) ones.

Thanks for stopping by. I'll be posting real time progress pics as I work on Instagram and updating on my blog when I've finished (or made some awesome progress). I'd love for you to follow me at Bloglovin', Twitter or by subscribing here by email.

I took the kiddos to The Intrepid Thread this week to pick out some additional fabrics to go with the airplane and helicopter fabric for their party outfits.

The Boy's birthday fabricsWell, surrounded by all the lovely new fabrics available, I scrapped my red/yellow stripes and blue blender in favor of six new fabrics to coordinate instead.

I LOVE them! Left to right: Stitch Square in Minnie (Michael Miller), Crosshatch Sketch in Orange (Timeless Treasures), Stitch Circle in Mustard (Michael Miller), Pearl Bracelet in Kelly Green (Andover), Scribble in Blue (Cloud 9), Tiles Tonal Orchid (Robert Kaufman).

The Boy has chosen that his bowling shirt will have the green, blue, purple and airplanes. And I'll use all seven fabrics for The Girl's dress.

Oh, and a bit of fat quarter impulse shopping while I was there. Pearl Bracelet in Grape Jelly (Andover) and Ovals in Orange (Robert Kaufman).

It took a few days after getting back from vacation to get back to the sewing machine. I think goal setting at the beginning of the month is helpful for me to focus.

I found these cool bins at Costco, made by Creative Options. I thought they would be a perfect fit for some of my WIPs.

I cut up some of my newest fabric (no pics yet) to start working on the party outfits this week. And I even did a little bit of piecing (for the mystery quilt):

9 patch blocksI have 10 more little (these measure 5" square unfinished) 9-patch blocks to make in a slightly different pattern to finish step 13 in this project. I'm a little concerned about my fabric choices (I've learned a lot in the last 9 years!) and wonder if some of my reds read too dark. We'll see once it's done.

Lastly, the kiddos and I stopped by my first shop for the Row by Row Experience, The Intrepid Thread in Milpitas, CA. It was my first time in their shop. (The kids loved the basket of blocks to play with while I shopped!) I had a really hard time focusing on the project I was there to shop for with all the beautiful fabric around me. I did manage to only impulse buy 2 fat quarters in addition to my project fabric (photos coming on Sunday). Here's their lovely spring leaf row. My stash of greens should work nicely.
