For the Text Me Mini Quilt Swap I decided that I’d make two versions of my swap quilt so I would have one to keep. (I shared all the details in this previous post.) In early September I mailed off the first mini to Monica in Florida. While I was away at a guild quilt retreat at the beginning of November I finally finished my own version of the mini. You saw a peek of if when I showed off the Schnitzel and Boo Mini that I received, since the Text Me mini is hanging (for the time being) in my dining room. Here it is!

I'm really pleased with the effect of using that number fabric from the center for the binding. And I just love the sudoku fabric. I wish I had yards more of it!

Thanks for visiting.

I was resisting jumping into the Mini Mini Swap on Instagram until Lydia posted the pile of adorable mini minis that she had created. I just loved the Alison Glass star that she made (top middle), and offered to swap with her. Lydia's favorite colors are raspberry, mango, aqua and yellow. It took me a few days to formulate a plan, but I decided on a raspberry-colored half-sized Patchwork City block for the mini. Mine measures 4 1/2" square. I paper pieced the roof/sky sections of the mini so I wouldn't have to deal with tiny templates and the rectangular pieces were simply machine pieced. I went with crosshatch quilting, echoing the angle of the roof lines. I used Quilting Jetgirl's tutorial for mini mini binding.

This was a lot of fun to make and I think I'll make some more using the Patchwork City patterns. I hope people are still swapping mini minis on IG once I get to them.

I find goal setting to be hugely helpful in getting stuff done, doubly helpful if I share my goals publicly, like on the blog or to a friend or family member. If you've been reading, you've seen that I have a lot of sewing in the works. While I'm interested in getting a bunch of these projects finished in December, I wanted to go on record and name my Christmas Tree mini quilt my official A Lovely Year of Finishes December goal. At this point it just needs its borders and it will be ready to quilt and bind. I've event decided how to quilt it. I'm planning to do loops back and forth across the tree part only, kind of reminiscent of lights.
