Fabric

I bought some pretty fabric. I had been thinking and thinking about this great line of blender dot fabric that I'd seen at a local quilt shop many months ago. I've been kicking myself for not getting some. I have Adrienne to thank for blogging about purchasing some of the Aboriginal Dots fabric so I knew the name of it and could finally obtain some for my stash.

I also bought two fabrics to add as borders onto my giant wonky star quilt.

batik fabrics Oh! My Spoonflower fabric also came. It's for round two of my quiet book page swap. My sister created the digital file for me. Thanks, Jenn!

fabric from spoonflower In an effort to minimize the number of colors of thread I have around here I've decided to start piecing in light and dark neutrals. So, I invested in large spools of 50wt Aurifil Natural White (2021), Grey (2605), and Medium Grey (1158). Not very flashy, but I'm excited.

So, while I'm sad that I wasn't able to participate in the recent Bay Area Shop Hop since I was away on vacation, when I look at my stash I realize it could be worse. I have some beautiful fabric purchased at past shop hops that I haven't used yet.

my paletteToday I'm sharing this fun pile of fabric purchased during the 2005 Bay Area Shop Hop. I was inspired by Jan Mullen's beautiful quilt Roman Stripez in her 2001 book Cut-Loose Quilts.

Just looking at my fabric and folding it into cute little rectangles has re-energized my excitement for this project, two quilts using the same 31 fabrics, with unique backing fabrics. Now to find a little time to work on cutting it out.

I'm unsure of my choice of mixing batiks and non-batiks, but I like all the fabrics.

I took the kiddos to The Intrepid Thread this week to pick out some additional fabrics to go with the airplane and helicopter fabric for their party outfits.

The Boy's birthday fabricsWell, surrounded by all the lovely new fabrics available, I scrapped my red/yellow stripes and blue blender in favor of six new fabrics to coordinate instead.

I LOVE them! Left to right: Stitch Square in Minnie (Michael Miller), Crosshatch Sketch in Orange (Timeless Treasures), Stitch Circle in Mustard (Michael Miller), Pearl Bracelet in Kelly Green (Andover), Scribble in Blue (Cloud 9), Tiles Tonal Orchid (Robert Kaufman).

The Boy has chosen that his bowling shirt will have the green, blue, purple and airplanes. And I'll use all seven fabrics for The Girl's dress.

Oh, and a bit of fat quarter impulse shopping while I was there. Pearl Bracelet in Grape Jelly (Andover) and Ovals in Orange (Robert Kaufman).
