Ah January... the first week of the month allowed plenty of time to get my bee blocks completed and mailed off. Ya know, before I broke my sewing machine on January 8th. :-/

For Stash Bee, Alison asked us to make classic sawtooth blocks with nestled star using her tutorial. I really liked the fast flying geese tutorial that Alison linked to. Her chosen colors were burgundy, light pink, navy and light blue. Light pink is hard to come by in my stash, but I managed to find some good options and I decided to go big with two interior stars. Here's my 16.5" unfinished block.

For do. Good Stitches, Lyanna asked us to make three 8 1/2" scrappy Jacob's Ladder blocks with low volume grey background, warm colors in the 4-patches and cool colors in the HSTs. My scraps, precut into 2 1/2" squares and strips, were helpful for the 4-patches. I used some of my leftover strips from last month's do. Good Stitches blocks.

I've realized part of the fun of bees is waiting to see a completed quilt putting together all our work. I can't wait!

Hello! If you're here for the first time, I'm Sarah. I just celebrated my first blogiversary, I love quilting and I'm totally drawn to bright, bold colors. This blog began as a way for me to share my projects, both quilty and otherwise, and has morphed into a primarily quilting and sewing blog. Cookie decorating and other posts are pretty rare now. Here are some of my favorite quilt finishes.

Candy Shoppe - I'm SO in love with this one. Okay, so it took me ELEVEN years to finish it, but look at all that wonderful color. Go ahead, click through for some awesome closeups that show the details!

Schnitzel & Boo Mini Swap - This was the second quilt I paper-pieced, cause aren't those envelopes so fun!? I plan on making many more for myself. And for others. (Maybe for my next giveaway!)

The Purple Quilt - Purple is certainly my favorite color. This quilt was the result of a purple fabric swap (how could I pass that up!?) I participated in years ago. It just makes me smile to see it around the house and I love that my kids enjoy using it as a dance floor.

Frieda - While this one isn't actually one of my favorite quilts, the story of why I named a quilt Frieda is still hilarious to me.

You can see (almost) all of my finished quilts in my gallery.

In honor of Grow Your Blog and my One-Year Blogiversary, I'm holding my first giveaway. Please comment below for your chance to win this Blogiversary Scrap Attack mini quilt. Anyone may enter (limit of one comment per person). The winner will be selected randomly on February 15th. The quilt is a 12" by 12" mini quilt, suitable for wall hanging, decorating a table top, or using as a mug rug (think giant coaster or small placemat, just big enough for a little snack and your tea or coffee). The pattern is Scrap Attack by Diane Bohn at From Blank Pages. Please note, I always reply to blog comments, but due to the nature of the giveaway, I won't be able to reply to everyone. Please feel free to email me at sarah@goer.org. :-)

Update: The giveaway has ended.

Thanks for visiting!

How could I not opt in for round three of the ever popular Schnitzel and Boo Mini Swap (#schnitzelandboominiquiltswap) on Instagram!? I realize with the Rainbow Mini Swap (#rainbowminiswap) this means I had committed myself for four swaps before finishing or receiving the first one. I guess I dove right in. I've just passed by the opportunity for the Spring Fling Mini Swap and I think I'm already regretting it. Ah well, I'm sure there will be some other great opportunities soon. (You should probably just leave me a comment with details on any open swaps you know about.) ;-) In the time I composed this message, I've joined another swap, the Alison Glass Mini Quilt Swap (#alisonglassminiquiltswap). So excited! :-)

Okay, so Schnitzel and Boo... My partner likes the designers Tula pink, Anna Maria Horner, and Alison Glass and she loves color. I took this as an excuse to purchase my first Tula Pink fabrics, which I love as well!

I've personally been drooling over these adorable paper pieced envelope blocks all over Flickr and IG (#swakswap -- though the origins or details of the swap are a mystery to me except it started at least a year ago). Anyway, I finally made my first couple blocks at the beginning of December and decided this was the way to go for the swap. (I also decided that I need to make myself lots of envelope blocks!) The pattern comes from Patchwork Please by Ayumi Takahashi.

Here's the resulting 13.5" x 13.5" mini quilt that I sent to my partner. I made some stripes on my binding which I like but were kind of a pain... so not sure how soon I'll be piecing stripes on a binding again.

Here's a peek at the backing which shows my in-the-ditch quilting.

I even ended up with my first envelope block for me (unless I go and make something for someone else out of it!) since I didn't like how dark the purple was in the lower left position.

Linking up on Needle & Thread Thursday, Finish It Up Friday, TGIFF and Fabric Frenzy Friday.

This is one of my finishes from my Q1 Finish Along Goal List. Linking up to the Q1 Finishes party at On the Windy Side.
